I am a woman, white, Dutch and with a family with a background to work in the Dutch East Indies. My great-grandfather and mother decided to go to the Dutch East Indies and live there. From this time on the colonies they left a nice album, photos from 1919 to 1945. Because of this album my image of Indonesia was formed at the age of 10, I also thought that white people belonged there. We learned nothing about the Dutch East Indies in primary school and later I realized that it is not normal to colonize what were the white people doing there? Power and wealth over others their physical health or mental. I think it is important that people remember history as it really was and not the romanticized east through the white.

This is my story and every story is different. That is why I look for at least those who find the story of their grandparents important to remember. So we know where we are all from. Maybe also change the history in the books.
This page is a spiderweb off ideas I wrote down for myself. I google translate it not because it is not ready yet. but you can get an idea how I work.

WHY MILLANIALS ????
Since the story that no longer exists also only consists of memories, it is interesting to hear the stories of millennials they heard from grandma grandpa aunt nephew. to a country that no longer exists through their memories.
Idea 1: Very inspired by the Hip hop house that the designers tell about hip hop streetware.

How do I tell all those stories?

First I should hear all the stories.

Different medium storytelling:
display pictures
movie
audio
infograpigh
idea 2: Country map of the Netherlands and Indonesia. All the people I've interviewed are coming to bot. The map is connected with wires if you connect it well to each other you get a story so you can also see where the people have lived in the Dutch East Indies, the country that no longer exists. ??

go to Indian retirement home?
Memories of that generation?

How do I approach the elderly?
their gadgets were not a telephone. (paper or fax)

What can i do to tell this forgotten story
Shaping a country that no longer exists
Great because it is a great story.
"Because of my grandfather, I'm here '
Idea 3 Put stories from back then in installation

what am I going to do ?: depicting a country through memories of the people of the Dutch East Indies: The country that no longer exists, but which lives on in the thoughts, perception and culture.

Why am I going to do it ?:
Why is it important for a child to know.? What is missing and what / why it should come.

I think it is important that we as Dutch people recognize that the Dutch East Indies have belonged to us for three hundred years. We must deal with this in a good and respectful manner. The ideal would be if the Dutchman and the Indonesian created a historiography together.

How I'm going to do it: Show family stories from the 1st generation to 3rd generation indos and totoks. Through interviews. To mine memories of the people. I focus on the period:
Idea 4:
I take on the role of a mine (coal mine) or data mine. What I do is mine people's memories. The agency consists of a mine work place and there the visits can also mine the memories of the people interviewed. Interactive. Same can be done in the form of an archaeologist. Who excavates history and examines it by means of objects to analyze.
